An Unexpected Expecting

I've always wanted something to blog about that I could share with family and friends. I mean, let's face it, I love my dogs like they are children, but not many people would be interested in reading about their daily mischief (other than my parents of course). So this site will be a source into the lives of The Mississippi Martins! And we have BIG NEWS......

THERE'S A BUN IN THE OVEN! That's right, Chris and I are expecting our first baby in April 2011. So before I start blogging about my food aversions, plans for the nursery and the laundry list of baby names, you should learn about our journey from the moment we found out!

Chris and I have always wanted to start a family, but really put the fate in God's hands about a year ago. After our excuse of the "Europe Trip" expired (how many times did you hear that response from me?), we became open to God's plan for our family. On August 5, I started to realize that "something monthly" wasn't going to happen for me, but I never thought I would really be pregnant. Luckily, I have a dear friend who is like a sister to me that I could call! She gave me the slap in the face I needed and said, "Amy, its time to go to the drug store!" And no matter how much I couldn't believe that those two little lines would change my life so much, she had to remind me that "a positive is a positive!" At this point, I still hadn't told Chris what was going on. The next morning I went to the doctor to have a blood test done. Sure enough, 3 hours later the nurse called and said my hormone levels indicated that I was pregnant! What? Seriously?

I wasn't going to ask the silly question of how this happened, but I just wasn't expecting it this month. But I guess that is the beauty of it. From the time I was a little girl, when I was asked the question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" my response was always, "A mommy!" But that's not really a major you can declare in college, so I chose a career path that I love. But I always knew the only job that would ever really fulfill my dreams. And hearing those two little words, "Your pregnant", was a better feeling than earning my college degree, getting my first job or my first promotion. This is a life changer!

Well I couldn't keep it a secret from Chris for much longer, but I didn't exactly want to call him at work and say, "So, you're going to be a daddy. Oh, my office phone is ringing.....gotta go!" On my way home from work on August 6, I stopped by Hallmark to pick up the Willow Tree figurine of a pregnant woman called "Cherish". Chris and I collect Willow Tree figurines, so I knew this would be a perfect way to tell him. When he came home from work, I called him into the den and told him that I had a little gift for him. He opened it and his eyes lit up with excitement!

From that moment, it was, "You just relax", "What can I get you?" "What can I do?" and of course, "You need to eat more for our baby!" He's going to be the best dad :) What an adventure we have started!
