Last week I went to Target to pick up some medicine. While browsing through the store looking at the cute maternity clothes, baby gear and fall decorations, I suddenly found myself in the grocery section. Fifteen minutes later, my cart was stocked full of a wide variety of strange foods. I sent the following text message to Chris: "In my Target buggy: fish sticks, french fries, biscuit, cinnamon rolls, bologna, cheese and apple juice." Why in the world did all these strange foods sound good to me?!?!?! I also sent the message to my sister-in-law to give her a laugh. She replied: "Bologna??? Ewww don't eat that!!!!"
The more I thought about it, I finally realized that I am craving all the things I loved as a kid! Wagon wheel pasta, fish sticks and mac and cheese and cold bologna sandwiches. Oh, and those sour cream and cheese ruffle chips I had last night hit the spot (kudos to my in-laws for having those in their pantry). I can also eat the heck out of some watermelon right now. Chris cuts up a new half of a watermelon every other day. I feel sorry for him when they go out of season and my hormones kick in and I'm suddenly demanding that he find watermelon even if he has to grow it himself!
I can count at least three times in the last week that he has started to cook something I requested for dinner, and half way through the preparation I have changed my mind. Being pregnant is definitely full of surprises, but it is such a blessing and I am enjoying every minute of it :)

I may have to disown you if you eat bologna.
ReplyDeleteYour cousins, Elizabeth and Helen, are excited about your news. They probably would tell you "No bologna" too!
ReplyDeleteI would have cravings while at the store then find these items in my freezer six months later, uneaten of course! Pregnancy can make you do some crazy things!!! I never asked, "What next?" :)
